“Love is the food of life; travel is the dessert.” – Amanda Jane Sturges
Good company, great beer and fantastic food, what more can you want? This tour takes you to some of Europe’s greatest culinary countries. To start off with, there’s not only one but two beer festivals included, the first of which is the official Munich Oktoberfest. So, put on your lederhosen and dirndl, because the party starts now. In between, you get to taste all the delicacies of Germany. Next, we take you to become a master chocolatier in Switzerland, the land of Lindt bunnies and creamy cheesy fondue. But we can’t leave you there, because there haven’t been nearly enough carbs on this trip. That’s why we head to Italy! Stuff your face with pasta, parmesan, truffles, wine and more wine. You can even pick up a few tips from the cooking masterclass we send you on in Tuscany. On this tour you don’t only see the world, you can eat it.

Here we go!!! Pack your bags and be sure to include a pair of jeans that is just a little bit too big! Today, we fly from South Africa to Munich International Airport. Our holiday of beer fests and culinary delights has officially begun!
Day 2, Monday, 28 September 2020
Guten Tag, Deutschland!!! We arrive at Munich International Airport, just in time to check into our hotel and start our exploration of German cuisine. On the enriching Old Town walking tour, we will see many memorable sights like the Old Town Hall and the Munich Residenz, the former royal palace of the monarchs of Bavaria. We will stroll through the lively Viktualienmarkt and tonight we will feast at the oldest tavern in the world, the Hofbräuhaus.
Day 3, Tuesday, 29 September 2020
Prost!!! Get your lederhosen and dirndl on because we are going to Oktoberfest! Drink in all that this spectacular festival has to offer, literally. Beer is going to be overflowing and so will the würstl and pretzels, but don’t forget all the other wonderful activities Oktoberfest has to offer, with many stalls and festival rides to explore. This is the Disneyland for adults.
Day 4, Wednesday, 30 September 2020
Shhhhh… Today, you can sleep in to get rid of that hangover or wake up bright and early, it’s your choice! This free day leaves you to your own devices to go at your own pace in the city of Munich. At the end of the day, join us for delicious German cuisine at an authentic German restaurant.
Day 5, Thursday, 1 October 2020
Another day, another festival… We leave Munich with heavy hearts but never fear, Stuttgart is here. After check-in at our hotel, we head to the Cannstatter Volksfest. This festival attracts about 4 million visitors a year with its lively atmosphere and colourful festival tents. There are more than 300 stalls to visit, selling anything from leather products to ginger cookies. This is not only a beer fest but also one of the largest funfairs in the whole of Europe!
Day 6, Friday, 2 October 2020
Grüezi, Switzerland!!! After breakfast, we head to Zurich, Switzerland by train. Wander through this beautiful city, from its serene parks and churches to the warm cafes and restaurants. Try some classic Swiss cheese fondue and a bit of rösti, but keep it salty, because tomorrow is going to be sweet!
Day 7, Saturday, 3 October 2020
Chocolate is happiness you can eat… Today we are all Master Chocolatiers! We get to go behind the scenes at the Lindt factory. Learn how to make your own chocolate bear or fill your own box of pralines with that sweet and creamy Lindt chocolate that we all love. We sleep in beautiful Lugano, next to the starry Lake Lugano.
Day 8, Sunday, 4 October 2020
Buongiorno, Italia… Finally, we cross into the land of happy, yummy carbs, Italy. Enjoy the fantastic views of the Alps as we travel south. We travel through the fashion capitol, Milan, but because we know you love food more than fashion, we head straight to Parma, the home of Parmesan cheese and Parma ham.
Day 9, Monday, 5 October 2020
Let’s be cheesy together!!! Enjoy a full day of Parma deliciousness! We take you to a Parmesan cheese dairy to see how this classic cheese is made, then to a Parma ham producer to taste the world-famous ham. Pair pasta, cheese and ham with local wine during lunch at a wine cellar. Also see how traditional balsamic vinegar is made. This day might put us all into a food-induced coma, but it is so worth it.
Day 10, Tuesday, 6 October 2020
Under the Tuscan Sun… After a quick trip by train to Florence, we jet off for a half-day tour of Tuscany. Whether it is the scenery, the food or the wine, the Tuscan countryside will have you in love by the end of the day.
Day 11, Wednesday, 7 October 2020
Teach me, Maestro… Ever wanted to make your own authentic Italian pasta? Now you can learn to do it from an expert! The best part is that after the class, you can enjoy the fruits of your labour with a glass of local wine and your new friends. The rest of the day you can work off a few calories while you do some last-minute shopping.
Day 12, Thursday, 8 October 2020
Arrivederci, Europe… With heavy hearts and heavy bags, we say goodbye to Italy and Europe. And we won’t admit it, but maybe some of us missed a lekker braai.
Day 13, Friday, 9 October 2020
Home, Sweet Home… We land back in South Africa, just in time to book another trip with Contore Tours. We take you Continents Galore!
